Large format 4x5 film camera | Digital Photography | Oil Painting

Collied | A mini-series of self-portraits exploring the juxtaposition of religious practice in public populated areas of Detroit.

Garments of Faith | Through “Garments of Faith," viewers are given a unique opportunity to appreciate the interplay between fabric and faith. This series captures the fabrics of different cultures under one religious practice, Islam.

Building on the portraits, I explored another layer of meaning through oil painting, incorporating symbolic
religious patterns. This allowed me to add depth and texture, creating a dialogue between photography and painting.

UN/Vailed | It is easy to overlook the individuality of hijabi Muslim women. Un/Vailed counters this by presenting black-and-white portraits that invite viewers to study each face closely. The women portrayed are those I’ve often been mistaken for, underscoring the assumptions placed upon us. Each portrait is paired with a photograph of the same woman in a vibrant, colorful hijab—emphasizing her unique identity and presence.
